Jù — A Grounded Rest, ceramic by Yangzi Huang

Project 02

A Grounded Rest

Year

2025

Materials

Wild clay
Jingdezhen porcelain

Method

Traditional hand-building

A series of functional ceramic works inspired by ancient furniture forms — stools, side tables, and tea platforms. Objects that sit quietly between use and presence, neither purely decorative nor purely utilitarian.

Forms that move between Western body structures and the rhythm of Eastern landscapes. The work asks: what does it mean to rest on something made from the earth? To place weight on fired clay, and feel held by it?

Made from Longquan clay and Zhongpai porcelain using traditional methods, each piece carries the evidence of the hand — the slight asymmetries that speak of time, attention, and care.
